Healthy Diets
dietmonth

For the month of August, 2006 , a menu plan has been developed as a guide for us to practice good eating habits, and to enjoy a wide variety of foods. Since we all seem to struggle with getting enough vegetables and fruits every day, this menu plan has a strong focus on incorporating more of these foods into our diet.

TIP: As a general rule to ensure we eat more vegetables, try dividing the plate in half. One half should contain only vegetables and the other half is for protein (meat) and starch (rice, pasta). Always eat the vegetables first, followed by the protein and starch.

Greetings!

"Let us lay aside every weight .." (Hebrews 12:1)

To all my sons & daughters in the faith, grace be unto you and peace from the Lord Jesus Christ. Welcome to the month of August and some of the hottest temperatures on record. Summer is in full swing, the heat is on and here at Rhema we are promoting the best in physical fitness. In keeping with our mission to empower the whole person and with a sustained focus on health and wellness, this month has been designated as Diet Month. A time to lay aside every weight for a trimmer, leaner more sleek you. Now this does not have to be just physical weight, but it can be emotional weight, spiritual weight or economic weight. The fact is, anything that you are carrying that is too heavy for you is unhealthy.

Here are three things that I want you to consider this month:

  • Drop the excess - Take inventory in your life and see where there are areas of excess. Things which are unnecessary loads or burdens that you have taken on. Be quick to jettison this excess baggage. Destiny can be delayed by excess weight. Are you too heavy? Increase your speed - Once you have trimmed down you are now in a position to increase the speed of your journey to life’s destiny. Dieting in every area of your life is simply delayed gratification which will serve to get you to your goals a lot faster. Are you on pace?
  • Experience fullness of living - Step into life the way it was intended to be lived. When you are experiencing life’s fullness, then you will agree with this next statement --- The trimmer you are the better you will feel and the leaner you are the lighter you will be. Are you living to the full?

Fellow believer use this month to target every unnecessary weight or burden in your life. Take the required steps to lay aside these weights for your own health and the health of others. Finally, if your primary focus for this month is physical weight or simply being more fit, we have created an awesome diet plan for you.

Editor's Desk

"Be still and know that I am God"; Psalm 46:10. These beautiful words are like a gentle wind that effortlessly carries with it a peace that transcends whatever we are preoccupied with in the moment. They convey that He is a source of comfort and love. God’s very essence is summed up in this expression. It says 'believer you have everything you need - you are sufficient because--' “I Am”.
Kingdom Citizens are people driven to achieve more, do more, learn more; determined to reach our potential. We are aware that the talents we have been blessed with make us capable of changing tides, minds and perhaps even the location of the odd “mountain”. Generally strong, entrepreneurial in spirit if not in vocation, always exploring opportunities. These very traits however also make us superior candidates and very susceptible to straying off the mark God has intended. Left unchecked, they lend themselves readily to forgetting that nothing is missing or broken or potentially to the development of unbecoming characteristics; possibly arrogance or impatience as examples. Our purpose is important and He wants us to succeed. Our strategy for staying the course is first and foremost to keep Him at the centre. Take regular time alone with God. Seek His face and learn to hear and then to obey what we hear.
"Be still and know that I am God" reminds us: That we need Him in the greatest and the smallest of circumstances; That He knows our weaknesses and covers them with His towering strength; That if we spend time with Him, he will take care of the rest; and that ultimately mountains move, tides change and minds change when they should because He Is.
